Rick is self-taught. His carvings are influenced by age old hunting decoys. His wood carvings are all about nature, many with a whimsical and folk art touch. Developing his own patterns from photos and research, he patiently chips away until gradually the bird appears. Often exaggerating features of the vintage decoys with his own carving style, detailed lifelike feathers and brightened paint, he adds his own flair to his decoys and shorebirds.
